DauLang Gallery is delighted to present ‘Anthropocene’, an exhibition by the Italian artist Pietro Ruffo (born 1978 in Rome, where he lives and works), and his first show in South Korea. 

Since the late 1990s, Ruffo’s practice has examined some of the most pressing social matters of our time, from the migrant crisis of the past two decades to the Arab Spring, and from the legacies of European colonialism and imperialism to the intractable political and religious conflicts of the contemporary Middle East. Always, these urgent issues are considered through the lens of enduring Enlightenment themes of democracy and freedom (the latter symbolised in the repeated motif of the dragonfly), as a way to explore their endless utopian promise as well as to expose their real-life shortcomings.
